Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reinforced his advocacy for greater investment in Nigeria’s education and healthcare sectors with a fresh ₦10 million donation to the College of Nursing Sciences, Oluyoro, Ibadan, declaring that the country’s future depends on producing well-trained healthcare professionals.

The donation, made during a visit to the institution after attending the 50th/15th Biennial Conference of the Methodist Church, is part of Obi’s continuing support for the college and his broader campaign for sustained investment in human capital development.

Addressing the management and students, the former Anambra State governor stressed that no nation can build a resilient healthcare system without prioritising the education and training of competent professionals.

He said education remains one of the strongest foundations for national development, particularly in critical sectors such as healthcare, where skilled personnel are indispensable to quality service delivery.

Reaffirming an earlier commitment to the institution, Obi presented another ₦10 million to support the college’s academic programmes and the training of future nurses and other healthcare professionals.

According to him, the intervention reflects his longstanding belief that investments in education are among the most effective ways to secure Nigeria’s future and improve the quality of life for its citizens.

Obi also challenged the students to approach their studies with discipline, dedication and a strong sense of purpose, reminding them that the nursing profession occupies a strategic position in healthcare delivery.

He noted that Nigerian nurses continue to distinguish themselves around the world through competence, compassion and professionalism, urging the students to uphold those values and prepare themselves for leadership in the profession.

“Their skills, compassion and dedication are needed not only in Nigeria but across the world. I encouraged them to pursue excellence, uphold the highest standards of professionalism and become worthy ambassadors of our country,” he said.

The donation adds to Obi’s growing record of financial support for schools, health institutions and charitable causes across the country, reflecting his consistent argument that Nigeria’s development will be driven not by consumption but by deliberate investment in education, healthcare and productive sectors of the economy.
