The Kano State Film and Video Censorship Board has sealed the shop of a popular herbal medicine seller, Kausar Unique Empire Ltd, widely known as Kausar mai Back to Back.
The shop was sealed over allegations of using obscene language and images in advertising traditional remedies on social media.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the board’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, on behalf of the Board’s Chairman, Abba El-Mustapha, said the closure followed intelligence reports from members of the public.
According to the statement, the Censorship Department responsible for monitoring herbal medicine sellers discovered the violations and acted swiftly to shut down the premises.
It noted that the Board had been receiving complaints for some time regarding the advertising style employed by the company.
The Board stressed that such promotional methods contravene the rules guiding the advertisement of traditional medicines as well as the moral values and cultural norms of Kano State.
It further urged other herbal medicine sellers to ensure their marketing practices comply with official regulations and uphold the ethical standards of the society. (Weekend Trust)
