Scores of suspected bandits were neutralised during a fierce gun battle with security operatives in Kebbi State, although a soldier remains missing while two Forest Guards and two civilians lost their lives in the encounter.

The clash occurred on the outskirts of Tudun Bicci village in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area after troops on a joint patrol confronted armed bandits who had reportedly crossed into Kebbi from neighbouring Zamfara State.

Chairman of Danko-Wasagu Local Government, Hussaini Aliyu Bena, who confirmed the incident in Birnin Kebbi, said several of the attackers were killed during the exchange of fire.

According to him, the improved security situation in the area is a result of measures introduced by Governor Nasir Idris to strengthen the state’s security architecture.

He said the enhanced security arrangements had restored relative peace to communities previously plagued by banditry, allowing residents, particularly farmers, to return to their farmlands.

“Troops on joint patrol are now criss-crossing all parts of the local government to boost security and restore confidence among farmers to cultivate their lands without fear of attack,” Bena said.

He explained that the latest confrontation occurred when security operatives encountered bandits who had infiltrated Kebbi through the border with Zamfara State, leading to an intense gun battle.

Bena noted that Tudun Bicci, located along the Kebbi-Zamfara border, has continued to witness improved security despite persistent attempts by criminal elements to infiltrate the area.

He commended Governor Idris for recently visiting the locality and providing logistics, equipment and welfare support to security personnel, describing the intervention as instrumental to the ongoing security gains. (The Sun)
