The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Benue State on Thursday condemned the frequent attacks that have gripped the Benue South Senatorial District in recent weeks.

The association, through its state secretary, Ibrahim Galma, also called on Governor Hyacinth Alia to constitute a joint peace and security committee comprising relevant stakeholders to address the insecurity ravaging the area.

Galma made the call in a statement issued and made available to journalists in Makurdi.

Benue South Senatorial District, also known as Zone C, has continued to witness an escalation of attacks and killings in recent weeks.

Galma, who decried the loss of lives resulting from the incessant attacks on communities, suggested that the proposed committee should comprise representatives of the Idoma, Igede, Agatu and Fulani communities in Zone C.

He also appealed to the state government to strengthen the security presence in and around communities in the senatorial district, saying the measure would go a long way towards fostering dialogue, unity and peaceful coexistence.

Galma reaffirmed the association’s commitment to peace, law and order and urged Fulani people across the state to remain calm and channel all grievances through the appropriate authorities.

The statement read In part: “MACBAN Benue State Chapter calls on the Benue State Government, security agencies and traditional institutions to take immediate and decisive action.

“To constitute a Joint Peace and Security Committee comprising representatives of the Idoma, Igede and Agatu host communities, as well as Fulani stakeholders in Zone C, to foster dialogue and establish an early-warning mechanism.”

While condemning the series of attacks in the Benue South Senatorial District, Galma prayed that Allah would grant Aljannatul Firdaus to those who lost their lives and give the injured and bereaved families the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses. (Nigerian Tribune)
