The Vice Chancellor of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, Professor Temi Emmanuel Ologunorisa, has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society, United Kingdom, in recognition of his distinguished contributions to meteorology and climate science.
The fellowship, which took effect from 13th July 2026, was formally conveyed in a letter dated 16th July 2026 and signed by the Society’s Chief Executive, Prof Liz Bentley FRMetS. The Royal Meteorological Society confirmed Prof. Ologunorisa’s election under membership number 00074173.

Founded in 1850, the Royal Meteorological Society is the world’s premier learned and professional body for weather and climate science. Election as a Fellow is reserved for individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the advancement of meteorology or related disciplines.
The international honour comes two days after Prof. Ologunorisa delivered the keynote address at the inauguration of the National Executive Council of the National Association of Nigerian Students in Abuja on Tuesday, 14th July 2026, where he presented OAUSTECH’s strides as an emerging Centre of Excellence in Marine and Coastal Studies. Reacting to the development, Dean, School of Environmental and Earth Sciences at OAUSTECH, Prof Oladotun Oluwajana, described the FRMetS as “a major international validation of the Vice Chancellor’s scholarship and leadership.” The Dean noted that the fellowship strengthens the University’s strategic focus on Blue Economy research, with doctoral candidates currently engaged in pioneering studies on Blue Climate, Blue Energy, Blue Governance, and Blue Security.
Prof. Ologunorisa’s expertise in disaster and risk management, climate change, and coastal defence technology aligns with the Society’s global mandate to advance weather and climate science for societal benefit.
With this election, Prof. Ologunorisa now holds fellowships of leading academies in the social sciences, hydrological sciences, and meteorological sciences in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
