Detained PFIPC DG Adeyemi
•Reportedly detained at former SARS headquarters
Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, the controversial Director-General of the Presidential Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi, is currently detained at the headquarters of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), it has been learnt.
It was gathered that Adeyemi, who was flown to Abuja after he was arrested by members of the police Intelligence Response Team led by Moses Lohor, a Chief Superintendent of Police, has been undergoing a series of interrogations.
Adeyemi was picked up somewhere in Osun before he was transported to Ibadan, Oyo State capital, where he was reportedly flown to Abuja following a warrant issued by Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
On Thursday, the purported DG of PFIPC, an organisation authorities described as a “fake” Federal Government agency, was spotted boarding a private jet to Abuja.
President Bola Tinubu had given the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) 30 days to probe the controversy and submit its report within the timeframe.
When contacted for an update on the whereabouts of Adeyemi, the Force Public Relations Officer, Anietie Iniedu, a Chief Superintendent of Police, told our correspondent on the phone that he would find out and revert.
He was yet to do so as of the time of filing this report last night.
But a senior officer, who did not want his name in print because he wasn’t authorised to speak, confided in Daily Trust that he’s being held at IRT headquarters located in Guzape, Abuja.
According to the source, Adeyemi is being questioned over allegations relating to the unlawful operation of an organisation allegedly presented as a Federal Government agency, alongside other activities currently under scrutiny.
“He was arrested by IRT officials, not by any officers attached to any of the commands. So, he’s presently at IRT headquarters answering questions,” the source explained.
Gbajabiamila files N15bn defamation suit
Meanwhile, the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has instituted a N15 billion defamation suit against Adeyemi, over allegations that he demanded a 48 per cent kickback from a N27.3 billion take-off grant approved for a federal agency.
In the suit filed at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, Gbajabiamila is seeking N10 billion as general damages, N5 billion as aggravated damages, N200 million as the cost of the action, and an order compelling Adeyemi to publish a full retraction and apology in five national newspapers.
He is also asking the court to direct the defendant to pin the apology on all social media platforms and online channels where the alleged defamatory statements were published for 30 days. (Adapted from a report by Daily Trust)
