Edo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, said Governor Monday Okpebholo was serious about executing convicted kidnappers and cultists.
Prince Afegbua stated that no pressure from organisations like the Amnesty International would deter Governor Okpebholo.
Afegbua spoke in Benin Cotu at the bi-monthly ministerial briefing of the Ministry of Information and Strategy.
He urged Edo people to support the administration of Governor Okpebholo in his quest to collaborate with traditional rulers to win fight against insecurity.
Prince Afegbua noted that granting amnesty to kidnappers weaponised them to commit more crime.
According to him, “Governor Okpebholo has read the riot act. We will execute convicted kidnappers no matter what Amnesty International is saying. When Oshiomhole signed death warrant, we received 17 petitions from Amnesty.
“We are not perfect. We also have our challenges. We need the people to support the Governor to take such action.
“We should encourage the security agencies. They have been effective. The Governor does not waste time with security issues. We can get better when we get support of the people. We are happy about the strong actions.
“The Governor has invested and we are getting results. The Special Courts have started. We solicit for cooperation from the press”. (The Nation)
