NURTW National President, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, aka MC Oluomo and the late Toba Ijaya
The National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya (aka MC Oluomo), has condemned the killing of the Union’s Lagos State Organising Secretary, Comrade Toba Ajiboye, popularly known as Toba Ijaya.
He described the act as heinous, barbaric and unacceptable.
Akinsanya called on the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the incident, apprehend those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice without delay.
Comrade Ajiboye was reportedly shot on Sunday by unidentified gunmen in Lagos. Details surrounding the incident remained sketchy at the time of filing this report.
He succumbed to his wounds at St. Nicholas Hospital, Lagos Island.
The NURTW president described Ajiboye’s death as a tragic loss to the union and the transport community, noting that the deceased was a dedicated officer whose commitment and contributions to the growth and development of the organisation would be sorely missed.
He urged union members to remain calm, united and law-abiding as security agencies intensify efforts to identify those behind the killing.
He assured members that the national leadership of the union would cooperate fully with law enforcement authorities to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted, stressing that those responsible for the heinous act must not be allowed to evade justice.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai said some suspects are in custody while the investigation continues.
According to him, security has been beefed up across the state. (The Nation)
