FRSC officers at work
By TOBA AJAYI
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS8.112 Ajase-Ipo Unit Command, on Saturday repaired failed sections of the Ajase-Ipo–Ilorin road, filling potholes with hardcore and laterite to ease vehicular movement.
The exercise was led by the Unit Commander, CRC Folashade Inegbedion, with officers of the command working for several hours to repair the damaged portions of the road.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Inegbedion said the emergency intervention was in line with the corps’ mandate of ensuring safer roads for motorists and other road users.
She said the road had deteriorated to the point where it posed serious hardship to motorists and increased the risk of road crashes.
“We want to ensure the safety of all road users; that informed our decision to embark on the emergency palliative repairs.
“We cannot leave everything to the government alone. It is part of our responsibility to contribute to the safety of road users.
“That is why we decided to fill the potholes with hardcore and laterite as a temporary measure to reduce the danger on the road,” she said.
The unit commander, however, appealed to the relevant authorities to carry out permanent rehabilitation of the road to guarantee long-term safety and durability.
NAN reports that the Olupo of Ajase-Ipo, Oba Ismail Yahaya, supported the exercise, alongside other community stakeholders, including the Chairman of the Tipper Association, Alhaji Ozaini Opeyemi and other transport union executives.
Motorists, passers-by, and other road users commended the FRSC for the timely intervention. (NAN)
