The Kogi State Police Command has concluded its investigation into the alleged killing of Mariam Usman, a staff member of Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School, Ugbamaka, in Olamaboro Local Government Area, with three suspects set to face prosecution.
The Command disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that the case, reported on June 25, 2026, was thoroughly investigated by detectives from the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lokoja, leading to the arrest of three suspects.
According to the police, investigations revealed that the deceased was first assaulted on June 17, 2026, by Abdullahi Isiaka at her residence over disciplinary measures she took against his 11-year-old son while carrying out her duties at the school.
Later that same day, Mariam Usman was allegedly attacked again while on her way to the mosque by Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo.
The police further stated that on June 18, Ojonojima Mary, identified as the younger sister of Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo, allegedly stormed Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School, Ugbamaka, where she assaulted the victim at her workplace.
Following the assaults, the victim was treated at Grace Clinic in Ugbamaka before she was referred to Eleojo Clinic in Okpo for further medical care. She later died from her injuries on June 25.
The investigation, according to the Command, established a prima facie case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide against Ojonojima Mary, Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo and Abdullahi Isiaka.
The suspects are expected to be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction for prosecution.
Commending the detectives for their professionalism and dedication, the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, praised the Homicide Section of the SCID for conducting a thorough investigation that ensured those allegedly responsible were brought to justice.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling violent crimes across the state and urged residents to avoid taking the law into their own hands.
The Commissioner also encouraged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to the police to strengthen crime prevention and law enforcement efforts. (TRIBUNE)
