Senate approves Buhari’s N213 billion virement request

The Senate has reconsidered and approved the N213 billion virement request for Special Intervention for Funding of Critical Recurrent and Capital Items by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The development followed the Report of the Appropriations Committee submitted by its Chairman, Senator Danjuma Goje, during the plenary on Tuesday at the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly.

Leading the debate, the Chairman spoke on the Committee’s recommendations regarding the virement of funds, insisting that a better job was done on the virement request, having involved other committees.

Senate President Bukola Saraki, while commending members of the Appropriations Committee for a job well done, added that “the approval will ensure capital project funding, especially of local contractors as well as efficient and appropriate implementation of the 2016 Budget.”

He expressed happiness that the work of the Appropriations Committee showed the smooth relationship between the Executive and the Legislature.
