Delta Police spokesman SP Bright Edafe
The Delta State Police Command has arrested five suspects and recovered a locally made revolver pistol and 10 bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp in separate operations across the state.
Police spokesman SP Bright Edafe said operatives attached to the Asaba Area Command arrested three suspects — Musa Sule, 22; Moses Sunday, 26; and Osama Ibrahim, 25, during a routine patrol behind NTA Asaba on Saturday, May 30.
According to him, the suspects were searched based on reasonable suspicion, leading to the recovery of a locally made revolver pistol and other dangerous weapons.
He said the suspects were subsequently taken into custody while investigations continue.
In a separate operation, Edafe said operatives of the State Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU) intercepted an ash-coloured Mercedes-Benz station wagon along the Onitsha-Benin Expressway on May 29 and arrested two suspects identified as Hilary Aloma and Oki Joseph, alias “Big Joe.”
He said a search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 10 bags containing substances suspected to be Indian hemp concealed inside the car.
He said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspected drugs were being transported from Edo State to Awka, Anambra State, before the suspects were intercepted.
The Police spokesman said efforts were ongoing to uncover other members of the alleged trafficking network.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism.
He warned those involved in unlawful possession of firearms, drug trafficking and other criminal activities to desist or face the full weight of the law. (The Nation)
