A group, Turning Point Agenda (TPA), has called on the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, and the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to urgently address complaints arising from the party’s primary elections across the country and officially declare the results.
In a letter titled “Urgent Need for Transparent, Lawful and Authoritative Resolution of Primary Election Petitions and Official Declaration of Results,” addressed to the APC National Chairman and signed by the National Coordinator of TPA, Paul Oluwaseun Mashote, the group expressed concern over the circulation of unofficial results despite assurances that petitions arising from the primaries would receive due consideration.
Mashote stated that the publication of purported results by some media organisations could undermine confidence in the party’s internal processes and create confusion among party members and supporters.
The letter read in part: “On Sunday, May 24, 2026, during your appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television, you assured party members and the Nigerian public that all petitions submitted by aggrieved aspirants would be given due and urgent consideration by the National Working Committee (NWC), and that only the appropriate national directorate of the party is empowered to make valid and binding declarations of the outcomes of the primaries.
“This assurance was timely and reflective of the party’s commitment to due process, internal democracy and institutional discipline.
“However, in the days following that assurance, there has been widespread circulation of purported final results across various media platforms. These reports, as you clarified, do not constitute official declarations of the party and have the potential to mislead the public and undermine the credibility of the party’s internal processes.”
The group warned that the circulation of unofficial results could heighten tensions among supporters of aspirants in different constituencies.
According to TPA, some of the reports being circulated allegedly contradict the outcome observed by party members during voting and collation processes in certain areas, including Lagos State House of Assembly, Ikorodu Constituency I.
The group further noted that petitions and appeals arising from the primaries were yet to be fully determined by the NWC in line with the party’s guidelines.
It urged the APC leadership to expedite the hearing and determination of all pending petitions and appeals submitted by aspirants and stakeholders.
TPA also called on the party to publicly reaffirm that only the designated national directorate of the APC is authorised to announce final and binding results of the primary elections.
The group further appealed to the party to issue an official communication clarifying the status of the process in order to discourage reliance on speculative reports and restore confidence among party members.
According to the statement, the eventual declaration of results should reflect due process, transparency, and verifiable outcomes capable of promoting acceptance among aspirants and their supporters.
“The strength of our party lies not only in its electoral victories but also in the credibility of its internal processes,” the statement added.
The group urged the National Working Committee to address the matter promptly in order to preserve party unity and confidence in the APC ahead of future elections. (Tribune)
