Despite series of reconciliatory meetings conveyed by the Niger state governor Umaru Mohammed Bago to reconcile aggrieved members of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state, more members have dumped the party and have pitched their tents with opposition parties in the state.

The latest defectors are made up of over 200 members of the party from Bosso local government area of the state and are being led out of the ruling party by a former commissioner in the immediate past administration in the state, mallam Mamman Musa.

In a colourful ceremony in Minna on Sunday, the defectors made up of women and youths said it was time to seek for an alternative platform to realize their political ambition.

The highest beneficiary of the latest defection is the African Democractic Congress (ADC) party in the state.

The defectors cut across the 12 wards in the local government with the highest number of 70 coming from Maitumbi ward.

Prominent among the latest defectors includes the former state Assistant Treasurer of the party, and one time Senior Special Assistant to the farmer Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, Alhaji Audu Ibrahim.

Others are Adamu Ango Ibrahim, APC House of Reps aspirant for last primaries who is the coordinator of Jakadan Noman Minna group.

ADC leaders from both national and state were on ground to receive the new members.

The opposition ADC has continue to harvest defectors from the ruling party across the state after the fallout of the party primaries.

Worried by this development, the governor Umaru Mohammed Bago has engaged stakeholders in series of meetings aimed at reconcile aggrieved members of the party but his seems not to be yielding the desired results.

The latest of such meetings was a special session with all the party candidates and the aggrieved Aspirants who lost out during the consensus arrangements to pick candidates for the forthcoming general elections.

The meeting which was held at the Hauwa Wali Multipurpose Hall, Government House Minna on Saturday was convened to strengthen unity among party members and strategize on how best to ensure victory for all APC candidates in 2027 general elections.

A statement by the chief press secretary, Bologi Ibrahim quoted the governor as calling on all the candidates and aspirants to remain committed to the collective vision of the APC and the renewed hope agenda of the President as well as the new niger agenda of the State.

He appealed to the party faithfuls to remain loyal to the party and remain united to achieve a common purpose as it is imperative for every APC member to ensure the party’s success and continue to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people of Niger State.

The special session also afforded the party members in the state the opportunity to deliberate on key issues and offered suggestions and recommendations where necessary.

Adamu Ango Ibrahim who spoke on the motives behind the defection, faulted the governor’s styles of leadership, saying that the governor has personalised governance.

“This is what he brought to bear during the just concluded party primaries where he single handedly nominated candidates in the of consensus.

“What happened during the primaries does not in anyway reflect the principle of consensus. There was no justice, equity and fairness, so we feel we are not safe in the party any longer that’s why we decided to leave”, he added. (The Sun)
