Some stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi East Senatorial District have petitioned the party’s national leadership over the reported suspension of Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho.
In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by Ibrahim Mohammed on behalf of the group, the stakeholders urged the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe, and the National Secretary to review the circumstances surrounding the suspension.
The group expressed concern over the process leading to the decision and called on the party leadership to ensure due process and fairness in handling internal party matters.
According to the statement, the stakeholders alleged that there were disagreements regarding the authenticity of some individuals involved in the meeting where the suspension decision was reportedly taken.
They also cautioned against actions capable of deepening divisions within the party in Kogi East ahead of future political activities.
The stakeholders described Senator Isah as a committed party member and lawmaker who has contributed to the development of Kogi East through legislative and constituency interventions across the district.
They maintained that party unity and internal cohesion should remain a priority for all members and leaders of the APC in the state.
The group further appealed to party supporters in the senatorial district to remain calm and continue supporting the APC while awaiting the outcome of the party’s review of the matter.
Efforts to obtain official reaction from the relevant party authorities were ongoing as of the time of filing this report.
The APC national leadership is expected to examine the petition and determine the next line of action in accordance with the party’s constitution and guidelines. (Tribune)
