The Allied Peoples Movement (APM), in Oyo State held its state congress, returning Otunba Fagbemi Adegbenro as state chairman alongside other newly elected executives to pilot the affairs of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The congress, held amid increasing political realignments in the state, also featured the party’s South-West zonal congress with delegates and members from Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo states in attendance.
The APM has recently gained prominence following reports that Governor Seyi Makinde and several elected public office holders in Oyo State are adopting the party as a new political platform amid ongoing developments within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Among those reportedly aligning with the party are serving members of the House of Representatives elected on the PDP platform, as well as members of the Oyo State House of Assembly said to have secured return tickets ahead of the next election cycle.
At the end of the congress, Adegbenro was returned as state chairman, while John Adejumo emerged as deputy chairman and Oke Demola as state secretary.
Other elected state executives include Aderoju Bolatito as assistant secretary, Babajide Musa as treasurer, Lamidi Quadri as assistant treasurer, Adenike Adekunle as woman leader and Tina U. Afolabi as assistant woman leader.
The party also elected Adesina Mashood, Afolabi Rilwan and Amao Emmanuel O. as senatorial chairmen for Oyo South, Oyo Central and Oyo North respectively.
Similarly, Toyosi Suara, Olalekan Temitayo and Ojeyinka Tope emerged as senatorial women leaders for Oyo South, Oyo Central and Oyo North respectively, while Olumide Ojo was elected youth leader.
Other officials elected at the congress include Hon. Ibrahim Jinadu, Hon. Afeez Olayimika and Mustapha Lukman as senatorial youth leaders for Oyo South, Oyo Central and Oyo North respectively.
Salawu Dauda emerged as assistant youth leader, Barrister Olapade Dauda as legal adviser, Adegoke Anifat as financial secretary, and Riike Olaniran as organising secretary.
Chief Olowoniyi Adewumi was elected assistant organising secretary, while Amubode O. Tosin and Adeosun Sunday emerged as public relations officer and assistant public relations officer respectively. Salami Jemilat was elected auditor.
Also elected as ex-officio members were Oladosu Akanbi, Adeyemo Micheal, Hannah Babarinde, Ajani Akin and Alhaji Kamorudeen Ajigbotolorum T.
At the South-West zonal congress, Musibau Olayiwola emerged as zonal chairman, while Hon. Senami Temitope Agboyinnu was elected zonal secretary.
Other zonal executives elected include Oyesola Abiodun as organising secretary, Folorunso Olubukola as publicity secretary, Eluyefa Cecilia as women leader and Akintunde Akingbola as youth leader.
Oluwadare Funmilayo emerged as zonal treasurer, Akeem Kolapo as financial secretary and Priser Adelakun Bunmi as legal adviser.
The congress also produced Omoyemi Waheed, Lukman Alani Adeboye, Adesina Adesola, Oladipo Morayo, Salawudeen Muideen and Olajutemu Michael A. as zonal ex-officio members. (Nigerian Tribune)
