Gunmen on Tuesday night attacked Nding community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing five members of a family and another resident in a fresh wave of violence in the state.
The attack, which occurred around 9 p.m., has heightened fear among residents amid growing concerns over recurring attacks in parts of the state.
A community member, Weng Christopher, told our correspondent that the assailants stormed the area and opened fire on unsuspecting residents.
According to him, five members of the same family were killed on the spot, while another resident also lost his life during the attack.
Christopher lamented the worsening insecurity in the area, describing the situation as alarming and distressing for residents.
“This is becoming too frequent. People are living in constant fear,” he said.
The Publicity Secretary of Berom Youth Moulders, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the killings and condemned the attack, calling for urgent intervention by security agencies.
He also disclosed that the gunmen attempted to attack Rim community in Riyom Local Government Area but were repelled by local vigilantes and personnel of Operation Rainbow, the state-owned security outfit.
Tengwong described the spate of attacks as one too many and urged authorities to intensify efforts to protect lives and property across Plateau State.
Security agencies had yet to comment on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
When contacted, the state chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, said the association was not aware of the incident and called on security agencies to investigate the attack. (Daily Trust)
