By CHIAZO OGBOLU
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on Tuesday confirmed the death of a woman in a head-on collision on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said this in a statement in Lagos.
Bakare-Oki noted that the accident occurred at Ilaje inward Iyana Oworo axis and involved two Toyota Sienna vehicles with registration numbers LSR 809 GV and LSR 695 HM.
According to Bakare-Oki, the crash was caused by reckless driving, particularly excessive speeding.
“LASTMA officials responded promptly to the distress call, secured the scene and managed traffic to prevent further incidents.
“Also, officials of the Oworonsoki Police Division arrived at the scene to document the incident and commence investigations,” he said.
He said the deceased, a mother, died at the scene, while her 30-year-old daughter survived the crash.
“The body of the deceased has been evacuated, while one driver fled the scene and another was apprehended and handed over to the police,” he said.
The LASTMA boss urged motorists to avoid reckless driving and obey speed limits.
He reiterated the agency’s commitment to safeguarding lives and ensuring traffic order across the state. (NAN)
