By Dorcas Elusogbon
Ile-Ife (Osun),May 4, 2026(NAN) The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) chapter, have joined the nationwide strike over delay in the implementation of the 2009 agreement.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the unions staged a peaceful protest at Freedom Park, on Monday, in Ile-Ife.
They displayed placards with various inscriptions.
Mr Ademola Junaid, Chairman, SSANU, said that the strike was due to the failure of the Federal Government to conclude and implement the 2009 agreement.
Junaid commended President Bola Tinubu for performing excellently in the educational sector by giving intervention loans to workers to improve their welfare.
The SSANU chairman bemoaned the suffering of its members, saying that the Federal Government has not been sincere about the plight of SSANU/NASU members.
He urged the Federal Government to meet the demands of unions.
Also, Mr Dayo Oyediwura, Chairman, NASU, alleged that the Federal Government answered the demands of one of the unions in the university system.
Oyediwura urged the Federal Government to be fearful and just in dealing with all the unions in the university system. (NAN)
