The National President of the Niger Delta Youth for Good Governance (NDYFGG), Comr. Lucky O.O. Ukueku, has strongly condemned the latest wave of xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa, describing the viral footage of citizens being humiliated, assaulted, and stripped naked as “worrisome and heartbreaking.”
In a statement personally signed in Abuja on Monday, Comr. Ukueku said the disturbing videos of Nigerians being dehumanized in a foreign land reflect a total breakdown of brotherhood among African nations. “It is disturbing to watch our citizens treated like this. As of now, we do not even know if some have been killed,” he stated.
Lamenting the plight of Nigerians abroad, the NDYFGG leader said the incident evokes both sadness and shame. “I feel pained and ashamed seeing Nigerians suffer in another man’s country. Nigeria, a nation blessed with abundant human and natural resources, is wealthier than South Africa. Yet our people are being humiliated there because they traveled in search of greener pastures, driven by poor leadership, a failing economy, and weak governance structures at home.”
He stressed that Nigeria’s wealth is enough to cater for every citizen if properly managed, but decades of mismanagement have forced millions to seek survival abroad. “It is surprising that some Nigerian youths still support bad governance and corrupt leaders who have plunged us into this situation,” he noted.
Comr. Ukueku called on the Federal Government to swing into immediate action to protect Nigerians in South Africa. “Our government must act swiftly to render aid to our citizens. Every Nigerian deserves protection, just as the United States and other nations protect their citizens.”
He further urged the Federal Government to issue a stern diplomatic warning to South African authorities. “This must be the last of such incidents. These attacks have occurred repeatedly, but this one must be the final straw. If nothing changes, Nigerians will not take it lightly with South Africa.”
The youth leader disclosed that his admiration for South Africa ended after watching the video of Nigerian women being assaulted and stripped naked. “Since then, my love for South Africa is gone,” he said.
He commended the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, for her prompt response in summoning the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria over the matter. “The needful must be done. No Nigerian is meant to be humiliated anywhere in the world,” Comr. Ukueku concluded.

In a separate section of the statement titled Statement on the Safety of Nigerians in South Africa, the NDYFGG President warned that the safety of Nigerians in South Africa can no longer be guaranteed.
“The actions of those perpetrating these violent attacks reflect a disturbing level of heartlessness that should be condemned by all well meaning people,” he said.
While acknowledging that not every South African supports the violence, Comr. Ukueku insisted that the persistent loss of lives and destruction of Nigerian owned businesses demand urgent action.
“I therefore call on all Nigerians residing in South Africa to prioritize their safety and consider returning home until their security can be fully assured. I also urge the Federal Government of Nigeria and the South African authorities to take decisive diplomatic and security measures to protect lives and bring perpetrators to justice. No Nigerian should live in fear simply for seeking a better life abroad.”
