Rufus Giwa Polytechnic
A student of the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, along Awolowo Road, Emure Ile-Owo community in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Audi Emmanuel, was found hanging in his room outside the campus of the institution.
In a video sighted on the Facebook page of one Alani Mi, on Tuesday, the student’s swollen body was hanging.
The 20-year-old student was said to be studying Computer Engineering in the state-owned institution, and the reason for being involved in the act was still unknown at the time of filing this report.
Some men were seen in the video covering their noses, indicating that the deceased must have taken his own life long before discovery.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident and said an investigation had begun to ascertain the cause.
Jimoh said, ” The Ondo State Police Command confirms the report of a suspected suicide incident at Emure-Ile involving a 20-year-old student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, who was found dead in his residence.
“Police operatives promptly visited the scene, where the body was recovered and deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
“Preliminary observations suggest a case of suicide; a thorough investigation was ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the incident.”
While commiserating with the family of the deceased, the command urged members of the public to seek support and speak up during moments of emotional distress, as help is always available. (The PUNCH)
