The Nigerian Army has intensified offensive operations across the North-West and North-Central theatres, intercepting explosive materials, neutralising terrorists and apprehending suspected collaborators in ongoing security operations.
The report, an operational update made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Abuja, indicated that the operations were conducted between April 22 and April 24.
In Zamfara, the report said the troops deployed along the Gusau–Magami Road in Gusau Local Government Area, at about 12:30 hours on Thursday, apprehended a suspected terrorist logistics supplier en route Gobirawa Chali to deliver explosive materials.
According to the report, items recovered included 394 water gel explosives, five electric detonators number 33, one and a half rolls of detonating cord, and a mobile phone.
“In Katsina State, troops of 17 Brigade in conjunction with other security elements conducted offensive operations at Malamawa, Jikamshi and Musawa towns in Matazu Local Government Area.
“Troops destroyed identified terrorist life-support structures within the camps.
“In Sokoto State, troops of 8 Division Garrison deployed at Forward Operating Base Marnona responded to intelligence on terrorist activities at Illela Village in Wurno Local Government Area.
“During the operation, troops made contact and neutralised one terrorist, while a vigilante sustained gunshot wounds and was evacuated for medical treatment,” the report said.
In Kogi State, it said the troops of Operation MESA deployed at Dankolo while on patrol along Adankolo–Adankolo Road in Lokoja Local Government Area, apprehended two suspected terrorists.
Items recovered included, according to the report include, one mobile phone, two phone batteries, charms and the sum of ₦1,500.
The Army said all arrested suspects and recovered items were in custody for further investigation and action. (NAN)
