The body as found dumped along Okija major road
By PAMELA EBOH, Awka
It was a horrific scene suspected to be the act of ritualists for the people of Okija community in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State as they discovered a lifeless body of a young lady with her hands tied down to her feet with a rope and wrapped with a wrapper.
The lady's body which was dumped along a major road in the area has created anxiety among the people as villagers trooped out in their numbers on hearing the news to the scene.
A video trending on social media, showed the victim tightly bound and dumped by the road side.
Though from the video, many initially feared to go close, not knowing what was in the wrapper but further videos from the scene showed a courageous man who got close and untied it by tearing the wrapped clothes and cutting off the ropes with blade razor, only for the people to discover that it was a human being, a female, stripped almost naked by her oppressor and yet-to-be-identified suspect.
This triggered a mixture of awe, fear, and emotional reactions from those present, as the victim was gradually unwrapped before the crowd.
While some reports allege that the victim was already dead by the time she was untied; some others say she was rescued alive and was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
As at the time of this publication, the circumstances surrounding the incident still remains unclear, including the identity of the victim or condition.
While the public still awaits official information and updates from authorities about the strange incident, the suspected ritualistic act has, however, triggered a chain of reactions and counter-reactions on social media, with netizens voicing out their opinions and sporadically throwing blames over the incident.
Efforts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, for reactions failed as he could not be reached.
