Late Tomisin
It was a very tragic experience in Ogbomoso on Thursday when a fresh graduate of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, identified as Tomisin, reportedly died less than 24 hours after celebrating his convocation.
The young man, described by friends and colleagues as vibrant and full of promise, had joined other graduates, family members, and well-wishers on Wednesday to mark the successful completion of his academic journey.
Sources within the community disclosed that Tomisin, who was also an aspiring footballer, slumped unexpectedly and could not be revived.
Until his death, he was said to be actively pursuing a career in football and was preparing for a scouting programme with Saint FC in Ogbomoso.
Following his untimely death, which has sent shockwaves through the university community and the local football scene, football activities across Ogbomoso have reportedly been suspended.
Friends and associates have taken to social platforms to mourn him, describing his death as heartbreaking and difficult to comprehend, especially coming shortly after a major milestone in his life.
As of the time of filing this report, the exact cause of his death remains unclear. Meanwhile, sympathies continue to pour in for his family, teammates, and loved ones, with many praying for strength to bear the loss.
In an official condolence statement, Ogbomoso United Football Club confirmed that the tragic incident occurred on Thursday, April 23, 2026, just moments before a planned training friendly between Saint FC and Ogbomoso United. Despite efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was described as a disciplined, hardworking, and immensely talented player, adding that he had begun to make a name for himself within the grassroots football scene in Ogbomoso and its environs.
The club noted that he carried the hopes of his teammates and inspired many with his passion, humility, and determination to rise through the ranks of Nigerian football.
Asked to comment on the demise, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Institution, Mr. Lekan Fadeyi, said the University had not been officially briefed about the incident as at the time of filing this report.
Ogbomoso United also extended heartfelt condolences to Tomisin’s family, Saint FC, and the entire football community, stating that his death is an irreplaceable loss.
“Your son was a champion both on and off the pitch,” the statement read, adding that his legacy would continue to live on in the lives he touched.
Similarly, FC Zenith also expressed deep sorrow over the loss, mourning the deceased as a bright light in the football community.
The club extended condolences to his family, teammates, and loved ones, praying for strength during this difficult time and for the peaceful repose of his soul. (New Telegraph)
