Hon. Obinna Igboebisi, an ADC politician aspiring to represent Idemili North LGA in the Anambra State Assembly, has poured encomiums on mothers, who stood in the gap when their hubbies shirked their responsibilities and abdicated their fatherly roles.
He made the comment when he spoke to journalists on the commemoration of Mothering Sunday by the Catholic faithful from his base in London.
“In some homes where the fathers are given to excesses, which make them not to perform their fatherly roles, the mothers had stepped up the plate to do the parental duties,” Igboebisi said.
He advised mothers to keep on playing their complementary roles, chiefly as the moral compass and anchor of their families, reminding them that great honours and rewards await them.
“Do not cease to play complementary roles in your families. Remember that you are the moral compass and anchor of your families.
“I’d like you to know that your good works have not gone unnoticed. In fact, in due season you will receive your rewards,” Igboebisi said.
More so, in her own remarks, Prof. Chinyere Amaka Onubogu, of the faculty of medicine, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, said that Mothering Sunday is a special day set aside to honour and appreciate mothers and mother figures.
She urged people to utilize the opportunity of celebrating Mothering Sunday to reflect on the roles, which mothers play in improving the economic fortunes of their families, strengthening their families’ bonds of unity, and raising their children up in godly ways.
“Mothering Sunday is the time to reflect on the love, care, and sacrifice that mothers make every day to improve the lots of their families.
“So on this Mothering Sunday, I am urging mothers to continue being good role models to the younger generations of mothers.
“Mothers should, also, learn to take care of themselves while performing their motherly duties,” Onubogu said.
Again, Mrs. Chinenye Chukwura, a Catholic faithful, who is a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Obosi, Anambra state, said that mothers who experience pains during childbirths should be appreciated and honoured on that score during their sojourns on earth, and not after their demise.
“We should show love and appreciation to mothers, who endure pains while bringing new lives into the world when they are alive on this cosmic divide, and not when they are dead.
“It is meaningless to honour them and build edifices to memorialize them when they are dead as they’ll be unaware of those gestures, then,” said Mrs. Chukwura.
