Engr. Eric Anyamene, a politician aspiring to represent Idemili North and South federal constituency in the National Assembly, has called for the empowerment of women whom he described as the foundations on whom homes are built.
A devout Christian of the Catholic denomination and philanthropist of note, Anyamene made the call on the occasion of the commemoration of the Mothering Sunday by the Catholic Church.
He made the call for women empowerment against the background of the good morals, which women inculcate in their children, and the enormous sacrifices they make to build their homes.
“A mother is the first teacher, the first nurturer, and often the silent Pillar of sacrifice.
“In homes across Idemili LGAs in Anambra state, they carry burdens that are rarely seen, yet their impact shape destinies.
“So Mothering Sunday offers us the opportunity to reflect on the foundation-mother- on which every family, community, and nation is built,” Anyamene said.
Engr. Anyamene, also, paid glowing tribute to his mother, Ezinne Mrs. J. C Anyamene, who, together with her husband, raised six kids, who have excelled in their careers.
“My mother is a woman of extra-ordinary strength, grace, and sacrifice.
“Her life is a testament to what true motherhood represents-selflessness, endurance, and unconditional love.
“Whatever I have become today is rooted in the values she instilled in me,” Anyamene said.
More so, Ambassador Augusta Ebunam, leader of the Obosi Development Union (ODU), Women Wing, said that the commemoration of the Mothering Sunday in the Catholic Church reminds the catholic faithful and other people that women play noble and indispensable roles for the betterment of our society.
“Mothering Sunday reminds us of the need to appreciate women not just on a Mothering Sunday but all the time.
“It offers us the opportunity to recognize the strength and importance of mothers in shaping lives and building homes.
“So on Mothering Sunday, we shall reflect on the sacrifices, love, and care that women give,” Ebunam said.
Again, Ogechukwu Ewudo-Okoye, a devoted member of the Catholic Church, who worships at St. John’s Catholic, Obosi, Anambra state, advised mothers to monitor their children, who are of impressionable ages, to prevent them from being influenced, negatively by peer pressure.
She further said that mothers deserve to be honoured and appreciated for they are stabilizing forces in most troubled homes.
“In homes where men are given to excesses, women are stabilizing forces there.
“They step in the gap and play the roles of both parents to guarantee the peace and progress of their homes. So they should be appreciated and honoured,” Ewudo-Okoye said.
