Admiral Habibollah Sayari says Iran could easily close the Strait of Hormuz Phito credit: BBCAF
Iranian senior officials have threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz again by considering it a ceasefire violation if the US naval blockade of Iranian ports continues.
This was reported by Iranian state media, Fars, citing a “well-informed source close to the Supreme National Security Council,”
Fars reports that the reopening of the strait “depends on the implementation of certain conditions and the ceasefire in Lebanon.”
According to the source, commercial vessels passing through the Strait must sail through the route designated by Iran and coordinate with Iranian forces.
Earlier on Friday, Tribune Online reported that President Donald Trump reacted to the announcement by Iran that the Strait of Hormuz is “completely open” stating however that the naval blockade of Iranian ports would remain in place.
He posted on Truth Social that even though Iran declared the Strait of Hormuz “completely open” for the rest of the ceasefire, the American blockade stopping ships that have visited Iranian ports will stay in place.
Trump wrote: “The US blockade will remain ‘as it pertains to Iran’ until OUR TRANSACTION WITH IRAN IS 100% COMPLETE”. He added that the waterway is “fully open” for commercial traffic, “but not for Iranian ships”.
“This process should go very quickly in that most of the points are already negotiated,” Trump wrote in an all-caps post on his Truth Social platform Friday. (Nigerian Tribune)
