A teacher was allegedly stabbed to death by a teenage student who is said to have held a grudge against her.
Olesya Baguta, 55, was ambushed and attacked as she arrived for work on Monday morning at School No. 5 in Dobryanka, Russia.
Her alleged teenage killer, named as Matvey, was lying in wait at the school gates before launching his vicious onslaught, according to reports.
She died in hospital from her knife wounds.
The Russian language and literature teacher was popular with students and was voted Teacher of the Year in 2018.
Frantic efforts were made to save Baguta, who was also vice-principal at the school, with an air ambulance transporting her to hospital.
Perm governor Dmitry Makhonin said: “Unfortunately, despite all the doctors’ efforts, it was not possible to save her.”
The teen attacker was arrested and remains in police custody.
He was already on a police register, and had been held back a year at school for behavioural issues.
Matvey had made violent threats in the past, but sources say that these warnings were “not taken seriously”.
Police are investigating the motive for the brutal killing, but some sources claim he had a “grudge” against his teacher.
The victim came from a family of teachers and said that her pupils’ opinion of her as a teacher was “the most valuable thing”.
It comes after one 14-year-old pupil set her classroom on fire and attacked her teacher and classmates with a hammer in a mad rampage.
The Russian schoolgirl reportedly threw a “Molotov cocktail” into the classroom and, as pupils tried to flee, stood in the entranceway with a hammer, ready to strike.
One pupil had burns across 50 per cent of his body, and another four classmates were badly injured.
