Super Eagles forward, Kelechi Iheanacho scores for Celtic
Nigerian football stars were in action across Europe over the weekend, delivering goals, assists and standout performances for their respective clubs as the 2025/26 season gathers momentum.
Kelechi Iheanacho, Paul Onuachu and Frank Onyeka grabbed the headlines with goals, while several other Super Eagles players made key contributions across England, Spain, Germany and beyond.
TURKEY
Onuachu, Nwaiwu, Nwakaeme (Trabzonspor); Osimhen (Galatasaray)
Paul Onuachu, Chibuike Nwaiwu and Anthony Nwakaeme all registered goal contributions as Trabzonspor defeated Galatasaray 3-1 in a Turkish Super Lig clash.
Onuachu and Nwaiwu found the net, while Nwakaeme provided an assist to help Trabzonspor close the gap to just one point behind league leaders Galatasaray, who were without the injured Victor Osimhen.
The hosts took the lead in the third minute when Wagner Pina delivered a pinpoint cross for Onuachu to head home.
Nwaiwu restored Trabzonspor’s lead in the 62nd minute, nodding in Nwakaeme’s well-taken free-kick as the hosts extended their winning run to seven matches.
Onuachu has now scored 22 league goals this season to remain the top scorer, while Nwaiwu has three goals following his recent Super Eagles debut.
Wilfred Ndidi (Besiktas)
Wilfred Ndidi was booked as Besiktas suffered a 1-0 defeat to rivals Fenerbahce.
The Nigerian midfielder received a yellow card in the 52nd minute as Besiktas’ hopes of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Europa League took a significant hit.
ENGLAND
Frank Onyeka (Coventry City)
Frank Onyeka opened his goal account for Coventry City with a superb strike in their 3-2 win over Derby County.
Set up by Romain Esse, Onyeka fired home in the 12th minute and produced a commanding midfield display as Coventry continued their push for automatic promotion.
Semi Ajayi (Hull City)
Semi Ajayi marked his return from injury with an assist in Hull City’s 1-1 draw against Oxford United.
The defender, who had been a doubt after picking up a knock on international duty, delivered a long pass that led to Hull’s early opener, finished by Mohamed Belloumi.
Josh Maja (West Bromwich Albion)
Josh Maja was on target in West Brom’s 2-2 draw with Wrexham, converting a penalty in the 38th minute for his third league goal of the season.
SPAIN
Umar Sadiq (Valencia)
Umar Sadiq provided an assist, but Valencia fell 3-2 to Celta Vigo.
Introduced in the 63rd minute, Sadiq set up Guido Rodríguez late on, but it proved insufficient as Valencia slipped to defeat.
Akor Adams, Chidera Ejuke (Sevilla)
Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke featured in Sevilla’s 1-0 loss to Real Oviedo.
Adams played the full match, while Ejuke came on in the 80th minute.
SCOTLAND
Kelechi Iheanacho (Celtic)
Kelechi Iheanacho ended a six-month goal drought, scoring the winner in Celtic’s 2-1 victory over Dundee FC.
Introduced in the 58th minute, Iheanacho struck in the 82nd minute, calmly finishing from Marcelo Saracchi’s delivery to boost Celtic’s title charge.
AUSTRIA
Moses Usor (LASK Linz)
Moses Usor delivered an outstanding performance, scoring once and providing an assist in LASK Linz’s 4-1 win over Austria Vienna.
He set up the opener in the fourth minute before later getting on the scoresheet to cap a dominant display.
GERMANY
Nathan Tella (Bayer Leverkusen)
Nathan Tella impressed as Bayer Leverkusen came from two goals down to beat Wolfsburg 6-3.
He won a penalty that led to the equaliser and remained influential throughout before being substituted late on.
PORTUGAL
Terem Moffi, Zaidu Sanusi (FC Porto)
Terem Moffi provided an assist while Zaidu Sanusi was booked in FC Porto’s 2-2 draw with Famalicao.
