Ghanaian businessman, Ibrahim Mahama and the private jet
A private jet owned by Ghanaian businessman Ibrahim Mahama has departed Ghana for conversion into a national air ambulance, in a move expected to strengthen the country’s emergency medical response system.
In a video shared on Facebook on Friday, April 3, 2026, the aircraft, popularly known as the Dzata Jet, was confirmed to be undergoing specialised modifications. The jet will be equipped with advanced life-support systems and medical care equipment to handle critical emergency cases across the country.
“The aircraft (N604EP), which left Ghana today, April 3, 2026, is expected to serve Ghanaians in critical medical emergency situations and will be fitted with the necessary life-support and care equipment to support its new mandate,” the captioned video said.
The development follows Mahama’s recent acquisition of a Bombardier Global 6500 jet, which was acquired in 2024 and delivered in March 2026 after undergoing custom modifications. The aircraft arrived at the Accra International Airport on March 3, 2026.
Mahama, who owns Engineers and Planners, said the decision to convert his previous aircraft into a medical emergency vehicle was driven by the need to improve access to urgent healthcare services.
“This is for every Ghanaian, not for me alone,” he said, stressing that the air ambulance would be accessible to all citizens in times of need.
The initiative is widely seen as part of broader efforts to repurpose private assets for public benefit, particularly in strengthening healthcare delivery during emergencies. (AriseNews TV, but headline reworked)
