The Taraba State Police Command on Saturday said it has tracked and arrested suspected killers of its personnel and a vigilante leader in Tse Kwe, Tor Damisa area of Donga LGA.
In a statement released by the command’s acting Public Relations Officer, ASP Victor Mshelizah, it was disclosed that the suspects, Suleman Abdullahi, 30 years, and Idris Kauri, 33 years, are both from Akente Village of Donga LGA.
The command also stated that three service firearms that were taken from the deceased officers have been recovered from the suspects.
“In a major breakthrough to ensure a crime-free society in Taraba, the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, CP Morkwap S. Dongshal, psc(+), upon assumption of duty, immediately intensified visibility policing across major towns and highways within the state. This proactive measure is aimed at deterring criminal activities and ensuring that residents go about their lawful businesses without fear.
“As part of efforts to assess the security situation firsthand, the Commissioner of Police embarked on an on-the-spot security assessment of volatile areas and flashpoints in Takum and Donga local government areas. During the exercise, the Command successfully tracked and arrested some of the suspects involved in the attack that claimed the lives of three police officers in Donga.
“The suspects include Suleman Abdullahi, 30 years, and Idris Kauri, 33 years. Both suspects are from Akente Village, Donga LGA. The command has also recovered all three stolen service firearms, and the suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged to court accordingly, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices who are still at large,” the command informed.
The statement also disclosed that the command had intercepted two suspects while riding an unregistered motorcycle en route to Ganye LGA of Adamawa State.
“In another development, a team of police officers attached to the Zing Divisional Police Headquarters, while conducting stop-and-search operations at Yonko, intercepted two suspects identified as Torme Terzugwe, 39 years, of Kwande LGA, Benue State, and Job David, 35 years, of Toungo LGA, Adamawa State.
“The suspects were intercepted while riding an unregistered motorcycle en route to Ganye LGA, Adamawa State. Upon thorough search, 304 rounds of live cartridges were recovered from their possession. Investigation into the matter is currently ongoing,” the statement continued.
The statement quoted the Commissioner of Police as assuring Tarabans of the Command’s readiness to rid the state of criminal elements.
CP Dongshal stated that he will continue to strengthen collaboration with community leaders, youth groups, and other stakeholders to enhance community policing and intelligence gathering.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support the efforts of security agencies by providing timely and useful information. (Saturday Tribune)
