Delta State Police spokesman Bright Edafe
The Delta State Police Command has recorded a series of major breakthroughs in its ongoing crackdown on crime, including the recovery of a firearm, arrest of suspected drug dealers, seizure of illicit substances, and the rescue of a kidnapped victim.
Police spokesman Bright Edafe said that in one operation carried out on April 2 in Sapele, operatives of the State Anti-Cult Unit arrested a 29-year-old suspect at his residence.
He said a Beretta pistol and three rounds of live ammunition were recovered during a search of the premises.
He said Investigations are ongoing.
Edafe also said that on April 1, officers attached to the Ovwian-Aladja Division raided a location along the Igbogidi axis following intelligence reports of suspicious activities.
He said although the suspects fled on sighting police operatives, a sack containing substances suspected to be hard drugs was recovered.
He said efforts are underway to track down the fleeing individuals.
The spokesman said that in a separate development, operatives of the Abraka Division successfully rescued a kidnap victim on April 3 in Abraka.
He said the victim had been abducted on April 1 by armed men who invaded a residence.
He said: “Acting on intelligence, police supported by vigilantes and local hunters—stormed a bush hideout along a railway line, forcing the kidnappers to abandon the victim and escape.
“The rescued individual is reported to be safe and has provided useful information to investigators.”
Meanwhile, in Effurun, police arrested a 26-year-old female suspect on April 3 for alleged drug dealing. Items recovered from her include substances suspected to be cannabis, a weighing scale, tobacco products, and a generator tank used to conceal the drugs.
The Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their swift and professional response.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and urged residents to continue providing credible information to aid crime-fighting efforts.
Edafe stated that investigations into all cases are ongoing, with efforts intensified to apprehend fleeing suspects. (The Nation)
