Imo State Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye
Operatives of the Orji Division of Imo State Police Command, in synergy with the Anti-Narcotics Unit, have arrested a suspected armed robber alongside some incriminating exhibits.
This is part of their fight against violent crime in the state.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Imo State Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, he said that police, acting on credible intelligence, during a patrol team led by the DPO, Orji Division, arrested one Chigaemezu Aguguom, a native of Umuneke, Isiala Mbano LGA, at the Bishop’s Court axis near Pacific Hotel, Owerri.
He said that the suspect sustained gunshot wounds during a failed criminal operation.
During interrogation, according to the PPRO, the suspect confessed to being a member of a five-man armed robbery gang.
He provided useful information currently aiding efforts to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate.
Okoye said that police recovered exhibits, which include two locally fabricated firearms with five live cartridges, four smartphones, a wristwatch, and other valuables suspected to have been stolen from victims.
He said that both the suspect and exhibits have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Owerri, for discreet investigation and possible prosecution.
He said that the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, has assured Imo residents of adequate security during the Easter period.
The CP urged the public to support the Command by reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the emergency contact number.
