The National Association of Nigerian Students, Ogun State Joint Campus Committee (JCC) has officially announced the cancellation of a programme purportedly organised by the removed Chairman, Gabriel Francis, scheduled for April 14, 2026.
The Acting Chairman of NANS Ogun JCC, Comrade Hassan Kolawole, who announced this in a statement at the weekend, dissociated his executives from the event, describing it as “unauthorised and illegal.”
The statement commended the state government and concerned authorities for not giving in to the deceit and misinformation spread by the former chairman.
Hassan said that their vigilance and commitment to upholding the rule of law have been instrumental in preventing the usurpers from hijacking the narrative and perpetrating further illegality.
The NANS Ogun JCC acting chairman also gave a thumbs-up to Student Union Government (SUG) presidents and stakeholders across tertiary institutions in the state for standing firm and mobilising against the illegality.
He noted that their solidarity and dedication to the principles of student unionism have sent a strong message that NANS Ogun JCC will not tolerate any attempts to undermine its constitution and elected leadership.
“The removed chairman, Gabriel Francis, had been found to be ineligible to hold office due to constitutional breaches. Despite this, he had continued to act in bad faith, attempting to legitimise his position through deceitful means.
“The NANS Ogun JCC leadership appreciates the patience and understanding of the student community and assures them that the association’s integrity remains intact,” the statement pointed out.
Hassan, however, assured that the forthcoming programmes and activities of NANS Ogun JCC will be communicated officially and transparently to all stakeholders.
He urged students to remain calm and focused on their academic pursuits, assuring them that the association’s leadership is working tirelessly to restore normalcy and strengthen student unionism in Ogun State.
“The NANS Ogun JCC leadership reiterates its commitment to upholding the constitution and protecting the interests of students. The association will continue to work with relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure that student unionism in Ogun State is guided by principles of transparency, accountability, and legitimacy,” Hassan concluded in the statement.
