Suspected gunmen believed to be kidnappers have snatched a newborn from a 19-year-old mother in Kidnawi 2, Maraban Gurku, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The community, situated about 18 kilometres from the Presidential Villa in Abuja, was rocked by the incident on Saturday night.
The mother, Aisha, recounted how the attackers invaded her room around 11:00 p.m. while she was asleep with her baby.
According to her, “I was asleep when I heard a loud knock on my door. Before I could react, two hefty men forced their way in. One grabbed my neck and covered my mouth, while the other took my baby and ran away.”
While narrating her ordeal to our correspondent, Aisha said that she struggled to raise an alarm but could not get immediate help. Her husband was away in Lagos at the time.
Chief Abubakar Yusuf Mai Anguwa Baƙo, the community leader, who confirmed the abduction to our correspondent stated that the incident has been reported to the police.
Security operatives have begun efforts to trace the suspects, but all efforts proved abortive as no meaningful development has been recorded to that effect.
However, a neighbour told our correspondent that residents did not hear Aisha’s cries until after the attackers fled to yet to be identified location.
Community members have conducted a search but are yet to find any leads.
When contacted the Police Public Relation Officer, Nasarawa State command SP Rahman Nansel, told our reporter: “Please confirm from the people if they reported this issue because I am yet to be briefed on it.”
Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward to help recover the newborn and apprehend the culprits. (Guardian)
