Police officers at a parade
By DEBORAH AKPEDE
The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, has unveiled activities for the 2026 National Police Day, reaffirming its commitment to public trust.
Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Mr Simeon Akpanudom, disclosed this in a statement signed by spokesperson, ASP Aminat Mayegun, on Friday in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the 2026 celebration is with the theme ‘Community Partnership: Building Trust’.
The theme reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s renewed commitment to working closely with citizens to enhance safety and security nationwide.
Akpanudom said the programme aimed to engage communities while recognising the sacrifices and dedication of officers across the country.
He said activities would begin Monday with environmental sanitation within the FCID Annex and surrounding communities in Lagos.
“It will begin on Monday, followed by a medical outreach providing free healthcare services to members of the public.
“On Tuesday, officers and residents will participate in a walkathon for peace and public safety to strengthen police–community relations.
“Wednesday will feature community engagement and sensitisation on crime prevention, safety awareness, and trust-building between police and the public.
“On Thursday, cheques will be presented to families of officers who died in active service, recognising their ultimate sacrifices,” he said.
Akpanudom said the grand finale would hold on April 7 in Abuja, featuring a ceremonial parade and tactical display.
He reaffirmed the police commitment to professionalism, accountability, and community-oriented policing in line with the Inspector-General’s vision.
He urged the public, community leaders, and partners to participate, stressing that cooperation is key to building trust and lasting peace. (NAN)
