The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the sexual attacks on Ozoro women of Delta state , describing the’action as unacceptable clear violation of their integrity and rights .
Videos of youths assaulting female students sexual during a traditional festival in Ozoro which is the Headquarters of Isoko North Local Governement of Delta state have being calculating in the social media space for some days.
Those Videos show how victims were attacked by youths during a controversial ‘Alue-Do’ festival held on Thursday, this week in Delta state .
They show young women being chased, stripped and molested in broad daylight, a situation that have cause widespread condemnation across Nigeria .
One of the widely shared clips, shows a young lady seated on a motorcycle being dragged to the ground by some youths, who assaulted and tore her clothes.
Although some residents have defended the action by saying the festival was a fertility rite, aimed at invoking blessings of children for couples experiencing difficulty with childbirth and that it is a periodic event in the community.
In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi , the party maintained that the videos circulating from Ozoro were horrifying. “It is even more disturbing given that this occurred in a community with a university and several schools, where young women and girls should feel safe.”
The ADC Insists on zero impunity and called on the law enforcement. Agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to book .
“We call on the police to be thorough and make an example of this case. Every single man that participated in the sexual harassment and assault of the women of Ozoro must be identified and prosecuted.
“It is unacceptable that days later, the Governor of Delta State has not spoken directly, choosing instead to speak through aides. Silence at a time like this is a failure of moral leadership. (The Guardian)
