File: NSCDC Operatives
The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has launched an investigation into the killing of one of its volunteer staff members, Buhari Haruna, during the distribution of Ramadan palliatives in the Tudun Wada Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred during a humanitarian programme organised by the member representing Tudun Wada/Doguwa Federal Constituency in the House o’ Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa.
Spokesperson of the NSCDC in Kano, Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed the development, stating that the command had commenced efforts to determine the circumstances surrounding the volunteer’s death.
According to Abdullahi, the command is working with its divisional officer in the area to gather details about the incident.
“There was a skirmish in Tudun Wada. He (Buhari Haruna) is our supporting volunteer staff. We are following up with our divisional officer to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death.
“We are investigating the matter, and then we will know the next line of action,” he added.
The incident has also triggered political controversy in the area. While the lawmaker, Doguwa, alleged that hoodlums attempted to disrupt the event and were responsible for the killing, some politicians in the locality have reportedly accused the lawmaker of being involved in connection with the incident.
Further details were not immediately available as investigations continue. (Saturday Tribune)
