The Akwa Ibom State Police Command says it has arrested two suspects for allegedly beating 26-year-old Nsikak Joshua to death.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, said the father of the deceased, 52-year-old Ekere, reported that the suspects brought his son’s corpse to his residence.

John said the suspects allegedly demanded that the father show them where to bury the deceased, after which they dug a shallow grave within his compound at Oboetim Ikot Ekong village in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area and buried the corpse, warning him not to report the incident to the police.

The police spokesperson said one of the suspects, Otobong Nelson, allegedly confessed to the crime, stating that the deceased had been summoned to answer allegations that he threatened a neighbour with a machete.

According to John, the victim was beaten with sticks and died from the assault.

“The case was reported at the police station on July 14, 2026, at about 8:30pm by Mr Ekere, father of the deceased. He alleged that his only son was beaten to death by Otobong Nelson, also known as ‘Efok Ikid,’ alongside Inemesit Robert, Utibe Clement, and Victor Robert, all residents of the same village,” she said.

John added that the remains of the deceased had been exhumed and deposited in a morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Describing the act as barbaric, unlawful, and unacceptable, she said the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, had directed an intensified investigation aimed at arresting other suspects involved in the killing and bringing them to justice. (Daily Trust)
