Controversies, alleged cover-ups and conflicting accounts have continued to trail the reported shooting of popular Nigerian comedian and skitmaker, Samuel Perry, popularly known as Broda Shaggi.
It was earlier claimed that the comedian was hospitalised after he was shot in the Sango-Ota area of Ogun State.
While an initial report alleged that the incident occurred under the Sango-Ota flyover at about noon on Sunday, March 7, 2026, a source has told The Guardian that the shooting did not occur in Ogun State but in Lagos.
Although the circumstances surrounding the alleged shooting remain unclear, reports suggested that the content creator sustained the gunshot injury while filming a comedy skit in Sango.
It was further alleged that Broda Shaggi was immediately rushed to a hospital in Lagos State, where he received initial treatment.
However, the comedian’s manager, Olufemi Oguntamu, popularly known as Femi Penzaar, neither confirmed nor denied the report when contacted, stating only that the comedian was “fine.”
Meanwhile, a source who spoke with The Guardian claimed that the incident occurred along the Ajegunle axis shortly after the toll gate in Lagos State, and not in Ogun State as earlier reported.
Preliminary accounts gathered from sources familiar with the matter, who requested anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the issue, suggested that the individuals involved were personnel affiliated with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
According to the sources, the situation allegedly escalated during the encounter, resulting in gunshots being fired. They further claimed that the shots were discharged by members of the Civil Defence present at the scene.
While these accounts are based on information obtained through independent inquiries, the full circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation to establish the facts.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the NSCDC Lagos Command, Abolurin Oluwaseun, said the agency had begun looking into the report.
“We read the report and we are investigating. I can’t confirm if our officers were there, but I will brief you after the investigation is concluded,” he said. (Guardian)
