The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has announced that the party has registered about 12 million members and linked them with the National Identity Number (NIN) as required by law.
This achievement was highlighted by Senator Basiru at the inauguration of the distribution of Identity cards to members of the Alubarika Movement in Osogbo, Osun state.
According to Senator Basiru, the APC insisted on linking the registration with the NIN when the party started its digital registration process.
“When the APC started its digital registration, we insisted that it must be linked with the NIN, and at the time that we closed the registration, we had registered about 12 million Nigerians, and the registration is actually closed and it is linked with the NIN,” he said.
Senator Basiru advised opposition parties to either prepare for the elections or boycott them if they are not ready, saying the APC is working hard to secure victory in Osun and Ekiti states.
“We are working hard, and we’re going to work hard to ensure that we secure victory for our party, both Osun and Ekiti,” he said.
The Alubarika Movement, he said, will work towards ensuring the party’s victory in the upcoming elections.
The APC National Secretary also called for a level playing field in the party’s primary elections, saying the winner will be acceptable to members.
“My advice, and which of course I’m also advising the party as national secretary, is that we should create a level playing ground so that there can be free fair contest at the primary,” he said.
He emphasised that the party’s primary elections should be conducted in a transparent and fair manner, allowing members to choose their preferred candidate.
The APC, Senator Basiru said, is committed to ensuring that its primary elections are free and fair, and that the winner is acceptable to all members.
“The party’s national working committee will decide on whether to open the portal for universal registration.
“For now, the party has only opened the portal for membership registration in Kano and Adamawa states, because Kano did not start early enough and Adamawa’s governor had just joined the party.
“For now, we have closed registration nationwide; we opened the portal only two days ago for Kano and Adamawa states.
“The decision to open the portal for universal registration will be taken by the national working committee, which has not met to discuss the matter,” he submitted. (Nigerian Tribune)
