Emmanuel Ogebe, ESQ at PVR airport Mexico
Washington lawyer Emmanuel Ogebe has arrived safely in the U.S. after evacuation from Mexico where there was violence earlier this week.
The Nigerian-born international human rights lawyer had been visiting Puerto Vallarta the epicenter of the violence that erupted with the capture and death of dread drug lord El Mencho.
Said the renowned international human rights lawyer in an e-mail to News Express on Friday evening, February 26, 2026: “In this case, Mexico was a text book case of how to handle U.S. pressure on terrorism. Madam President launched the attack on warlord El Mencho exactly a year after the U.S. designation of his cartel as a foreign terrorist organization (FTO). Remember that we got Boko Haram designated an FTO 12 years ago.
“U.S. offered $15 million for El Mencho’s capture and $7 million each for Boko Haram’s Abu Shekau and others.
“Unlike Boko Haram’s leaders, Mencho was not releasing videos, etc, but in serious hiding changing where he slept every 48hrs.
“Yet in Nigeria you will hear that the army surrounded a BH leader’s location and they will be given order to “stand down” and “pull back.”
“Even worse, it was recently reported that a minister ordered the release of a captured warlord as being his “boy.”
“Then you have terrorists uploading torture videos on TikTok and doing photo shoot with governors while heavily armed. Are we for real?
“It is instructive that President Claudia had told the U.S. that Mexico was a sovereign nation who did not need US boots on the ground but would handle the narco terrorists themselves. “She has fulfilled her words and fought the terrorists more than her predecessor.
“This is what Nigeria should be doing. She didn’t spend $9 million to “change narrative” or deny the reality on ground.
“Let’s remember that this same President sent Mexican fire fighters to help out during the California inferno so it’s a two-way relationship just like Nigeria helped US in Liberia’s civil war stabilization.
“Mexico cooperated with America to capture a warlord who is their citizen but in Nigeria so-called clerics are opposing military action against foreign warlords who are killing them for being their ‘brothers’.
“As they say, ‘The forest was shrinking, but the trees kept voting for the axe.
“For the axe was clever and convinced the trees that, since his handle was made of wood, he was one of them’.”
