Kwankwaso and Peter Obi
Former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad said those expecting ex-Kano governor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso to deputise for ex-Anambra governor, Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election are not being realistic.
Ahmad stated this in an X post on Monday.
Some supporters of both 2023 presidential candidates have been advocating a joint ticket for 2027.
Earlier in February, some pro-Kwankwaso groups led by one Abba Sadauki Gwale said an Obi-Kwankwaso alliance would be a chance to rescue the nation from its current challenges.
On February 12, a former governorship candidate in Enugu State, Dr. Alex Chukwuemeka Obiechina, said a joint presidential ticket between Obi and Kwankwaso would pose a significant threat to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
Reacting to the joint-ticket calls, Ahmad said Kwankwaso would most likely not accept to be vice presidential candidate to Obi.
He said, “There is simply no realistic scenario where Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso would deputise Peter Obi. Those pushing for it need to wake up to the political realities on the ground.
“In practical terms, Kwankwaso commands a long-standing structure, a defined political base and a movement that has remained consistent over the years.
If such a combination were ever to materialise, the only politically workable arrangement would be the reverse.” (The Sun)
