Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze
Georgia has moved to bar foreign nationals without permanent residency from working in the courier, passenger transport and tourist guiding sectors starting March 1, 2026, local media reported.
The decree, signed by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, lays out a binding framework covering the conditions, criteria, procedures and timescales under which foreign nationals may legally work or conduct self-employed economic activity on Georgian soil.
The Georgia Public Broadcaster reported on Monday.
Under the new rules, the government has implemented a zero-quota policy for several professions.
A limited exception was made for specialised tourism, with the decree allocating an annual quota of 200 permits for mountain, alpine and ski guiding services.
The decree further defines the mandate of the authority responsible for issuing work permits and overseeing compliance and outlines mechanisms for suspending or renewing those rights should the conditions change. (Xinhua/NAN)
