The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has rescued two suspected “one chance” robbery operators from a mob attack in Abuja, following a swift response to a distress call.

According to the police, the incident occurred on January 29, 2026, at about 11:00 a.m., when officers at the Utako Police Division received information that an angry crowd had apprehended and was assaulting two suspected criminals. Operatives were immediately deployed to the scene and successfully rescued the suspects from the mob.

Josephine Adeh, spokesperson of the FCT Police Command identified the suspects as Kefas Akaye and Uya Ugwowere, both male.

She said peliminary investigations revealed that they are members of a four-man gang allegedly involved in “one chance” robbery operations across the Federal Capital Territory.

According to her, the suspects travel from Uke in Nasarawa State into the FCT to carry out their criminal activities.

“Further findings showed that two other members of the gang, identified only as Mary and Aisha, escaped during the commotion. Police said efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects,” she said.

The FCT Police Command, while commending residents for being vigilant, strongly condemned acts of jungle justice and mob violence, warning that assaulting or lynching suspects could lead to the loss of innocent lives, destruction of vital evidence, and obstruction of investigations, thereby undermining the justice process.
