The Olufadejin lineage in Ibadan South West Local Government Area of Oyo State, on Saturday, kicked against the planned installation of one Mr Fatai Omosanjo Amzat as Compound Head of Olufadejin family by the paramount traditional ruler of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.

This was contained in a statement issued by Elder Dauda Adesina, on behalf of the Olufadegin family, in Ibadan, the state capital, yesterday.

It will be recalled that the last Mogaji of the Olufadejin family was the late Seriki Musulumi of Yorubaland, Alhaji Yekini Adeojo, who died on Friday, April 4, 2025.

Adeojo was also a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (South) and contested the governorship election in 1999 under PDP, but lost to the late Alhaji Lam Adesina of the Alliance for Democracy ( AD).

The statement explained that the Olufadejin family race was between Mr Akeem Adeojo and Mr Fatai Omosanjo Amzat.

It revealed that an election for the selection of Mogaji Olufadejin family was held under the supervision of the Mogaji Committee, in which Mr Akeem Adeojo won convincingly.

According to the statement: “What happened is this. Selection of Mogaji is within the family, and we have two contestants, namely Akeem Adeojo and Fatai Omosanjo Amzat.

“In the first election, Akeem Adeojo defeated Fatai Omosanjo Amzat. But he (Fatai Omosanjo Amzat) disagreed. We went for another election, which resulted in a draw.

Instead of going for a third one, one of our elders, Lateef Busari, in the family, wanted him (Omosanjo Amzat) to be the candidate chosen, and said he would go at any length, even to meet the traditional ruler one-on-one, as well as using his personal relationship with the monarch to influence Omosanjo’s emergence.

“To our amazement, our Baba – the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja had listed Omosanjo as one of the Compound Heads to be installed. We expected our referred monarch to invite the two contestants and family members for a meeting; he (Olubadan) now wanted to impose him (Fatai Omosanjo) on us.

“This is very simple. They should allow us to pick our own Mogaji by ourselves. Imposing someone on us is against the tradition of Ibadanland. We are now appealing to our revered monarch – Oba Rashidi Ladoja to drop the name of Fatai Omosanjo Amzat among the proposed compound Heads to be installed to avoid crisis within the Olufadejin family.

“The Olubadan-In-Council had already listed the names of Mogajis to be installed before the Olubadan tried to include his favourite candidate for the position.

“He (Olubadan) was against our late Mogaji, Alhaji Yekini Adeojo, politically till he died. He should allow us to rest. Why will he impose someone on us?” the family queried.

Alhaji Yekini Adeojo, who died on Friday, April 4, 2025, at his residence in the Iyaganku Government Reserved Area in Ibadan, was a prominent Nigerian politician, industrialist, and the Seriki Musulumi of Yorubaland.

In his reaction, the Chief Secretary to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Adeola Oloko, described the allegation of imposition by a section of the Adeojo family as unfounded and lacking basis.

“Their journey started at the Ibadan South West traditional council where they were screened by the Ibadan South West traditional council led by Oba Kola Diasi, and they carried their recommendation to the Olubadan In Council where it was hotly debated before they arrived at the decision,” the Chief Press Secretary to the Olubadan said.

According to him, the Ibadan traditional system is run on equity, fairness and justice, not on a naira and kobo basis or the amount of connections.

He said since the last occupant of the office of Mogaji of the Olufadejin family was Adeojo, the son cannot succeed him because many sections make up the family.

The Olubadan spokesman, who spoke with The Nation yesterday on the matter, further described the demands of the Adeojo family as totally alien to the Ibadan traditional system.

“What really happened is that in their family, they have section by section. The Adeojo family has different sections. The one who held that title last was Alhaji Yekini Adeojo as Head of the family compound, the Mogaji.

” Then, some sections of the family are now arguing that the direct son of Adeojo cannot succeed his father because there are other sections that make up the family. It is not a thing that can be won on the strength of how much money that you have or connections.

” No, that is what they are talking about . Ibadan traditional system is run on equity, fairness and justice. So, if Alhaji Yekini Adeojo was the last Mogaji of the family, his son cannot succeed him. So, that is the position of the palace,” he said. (The Nation)
