Delta State Police Command has intercepted gunmen who were entering into the state from Anambra State.
The command also dismantled a drug ring that has been trafficking illicit substances for a long period of time.
It was gathered that the gunmen had lied to policemen on stop and search duty who intercepted the Seina bus that they were travelling in that they were expecting a prominent religious leader in Asaba , Delta State capital.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO) SP Bright Edafe, said,” the Command has recorded significant operational successes in its sustained crackdown on criminal activities across the state, leading to the arrest of 12 suspects and the recovery of large quantities of illicit drugs and dangerous weapons in two separate, intelligence-led operations.
“On January 22, 2026, at about 4.10 PM , operatives of the Command’s Buffalo Patrol Team, while on routine stop-and-search duty at the Head bridge, boundary between Anambra and Delta states, intercepted a green Toyota Sienna bus travelling from Anambra State into Delta State.
“The occupants of the vehicle, dressed in mufti, claimed to be in Delta State to welcome a visiting religious leader.
However, a detailed search of the vehicle revealed a cache of concealed weapons, including three pump-action guns, one locally fabricated dane gun, one battle axe, and 26 live cartridges.
“The suspects arrested in this operation are: Nwanlioba Ikechukwu Dominic, 62, Agbata Mathew,35 , Osita Chineye, 39 , Favour Peterson,23 , Prince Tochukwu, 32 and Clement Nwakwa, 51. The suspects were taken into custody and investigation is ongoing.”

“A suspected dealer was initially arrested during the operation. In a dramatic turn of events, the suspect volunteered vital information which enabled the police to swiftly trace and arrest six additional suspects believed to be key players in the drug supply chain.
“The suspects arrested are: Daniel Ojukwu, Rose Otofi , Osaro Okosu,Maro Ibecha, Fregene Victory , and Kevwe Irimon.
“Searches conducted at their respective residences yielded a large cache of hard drugs and paraphernalia, including packs of GM Gold Indian hemp, one pack of Canadian loud, 40 packs of Kolorado, 16 sachets of Swinol, 30 tablets of Tramadol, 52 packs of loud, and two crushers, believed to have been used for processing and resale. Investigation is ongoing.
“Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, reiterated that the Command remains resolute in dismantling criminal networks and will continue to deploy proactive and intelligence-led strategies to safeguard lives and property across Delta State. The CP further called on residents to remain law-abiding and to continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information, assuring that all information received will be treated with strict confidentiality.” (The Sun)
