A former governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof Rufai Durotoye, has raised an alarm over a move to take his life by a group of people in Osun state.
The former aspirant, in a petition to the state commissioner over alleged death threats over the weekend, charged the police authorities to investigate the case by swinging into action with immediate effect because his life is in danger.
Durotoye, in the petition written by Barrister Kehinde Adesiyan, a copy of which was made available to Tribune Online, appealed to the commissioner of police to set up an investigation into the matter to avoid unexpected homicide in Osun State.
The petition further stated, “Our client is making this save his soul call so that all those that are invited for questioning with a view to give assurance that no lives will be lost and especially the life of our highly cherished client who is a breadwinner to many people.”
The petition added that, apart from visits to his residence twice, he also received anonymous calls from peoplewho threatened to take his life.
In an interview, Durotoye stated, “Two weeks ago, three armed men were knocking at my gate at 9:30 pm. I was not in, so my neighbour approached them, and they said they wanted that Professor. They were told that I was not in, then they sent him to tell me that they would be back to deliver the message. So they left.
“On Monday, I went to Ibadan, and my people came back to Osogbo. They were stopped and blocked at the last junction to my house, and they were led to my gate with guns.
“They came in a Sienna SUV and two Okadas. They told them that I was not home, but they did not believe them, so one of them said maybe they should kill one of my cousins as a message to me, but one of them said no, that they needed me. They left and promised to come back.
“I have petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Department of State Service (DSS) and Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) over the matter to seek security.” (TRIBUNE)
