A driver, Mumini Bello, 52, on Friday, appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for allegedly killing two siblings through reckless driving.
Bello, whose address was not provided, is facing a four-count charge, bordering on reckless driving.
He, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Elisha Tellang, said that Bello committed the offence on Jan. 3 at Oke Ibadan Estate, Iyana Church, Ibadan.
He alleged that the defendant drove recklessly in a Toyota Tacoma Van on the highway, without due regard to other road users.
He alleged that the reckless driving led to the killing of one 8-year-old girl, Inioluwa Oladimeji, and her younger brother, Obaloluwa Oladimeji.
Narrating the incident in court, Tellang alleged that the vehicle veered off the road, smashed into a building and ran over two siblings in their sleep, killing them on the spot.
He alleged that the vehicle also hit and injured a passer-by, one Olalekan Quweel, 15.
He said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 3(1) of Reckless and Driving Act of Oyo State, 2000 and 18 of the Road Traffic Act of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs Moyosore Atanda, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million, with two sureties in like sum.
Atanda later adjourned the case to March 10 for hearing. (NAN)
