Crisis has hit the Anambra State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with Senator Annie Okonkwo resigning as the Campaign manager of the party’s candidate for the November 16 governorship election, Senator Chris Ngige.
Reporting on the incident this morning, National Mirror said that “Senator Annie Okonkwo has “disassociated himself from his candidature,” adding: “Okonkwo labelled Ngige as an ingrate and untrustworthy fellow.”
According to the report, “In a letter dated September 18, 2013 and addressed to the National Chairman of the APC, Chief Bisi Akande, Okonkwo who incidentally stepped down for Ngige in a highly dramatised occasion last month in Abuja also accused the governorship candidate of not keeping to the agreement they entered into before he stepped down for him.”
It quotes the letter as reading in part: “I regrettably decline the appointment and also disassociate myself from the candidature of our flag bearer, Senator Chris Ngige. My decision was borne out of the inability of not keeping to agreement and flagrant distrust and abuses by our flag bearer who, of course, showed no appreciation of supreme sacrifice of stepping down for him.”
APC National Chairman had, on September 5, appointed Okonkwo as the chairman and campaign coordinator of the Anambra governorship election for the party.
